Afognak Wilderness Lodge is the only lodge or residence in the Afognak Island State Park. This prime, isolated location provides our visitors with the best wildlife, fishing, and photography Alaska has to offer. Not to mention our first class accommodations. Within the Kodiak Islands, Afognak Island is "tops" for anyone seeking Alaska's finest combination destination. With both fresh & saltwater fishing PLUS a variety & abundance of wildlife PLUS some of the classiest accommodations, this has been a prized retreat since 1974 for photographers (professional & amateur), sport-fishermen and adventurous vacationers. Along the majestic shores of this particularly prized Kodiak Island, streams and their estuaries are tucked into cozy nooks that only a handful of people get to enjoy simultaneous. Sockeye, Pink & Silver Salmon and Rainbow, Steelhead & Dolly Varden Trout call these streams home. Offshore, there's a myriad of saltwater species waiting to saturate your fishing urge from the giant halibut right down to the delicate flounder with delectable lingcod, red-snapper, sea-bass, greenling and much more in between. Alaska Freshwater Fishing includes: Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Steelhead Trout, and Dolly Varden Trout. Alaska Saltwater Fishing includes: Halibut, Ling Cod, Sea Bass, Yellow-Eye, Red Snapper, Flounder, and Greenling. At low tide, you can dig clams, harvest mussels/cockles, hunt octopus or just investigate the interesting inter-tidal zone for jelly-fish, starfish, sea-urchins, periwinkles, jumping-jacks and much more. We furnish all fishing gear for both fresh and saltwater fishing, but if you have your own favorite salmon/trout gear, feel free to bring it.
