About Us:

At NORTH COUNTRY OUTFITTERS our speciality is fly-in, all inclusive, fall wilderness moose hunts. Our seven day hunts are offered from mid/late September to mid October during the peak rut for this area. Our exclusive moose hunting allocation, centered on the confluence of two rivers, one big, the Churchill and one small, the Little Churchill makes this area a mecca for moose during the rut. We use two indicators to measure our success; repeat clientele and our hunting success rate. Over 45% of our clientele are returning hunters (most often bringing new hunters with them) and over the last five years our hunting success rate (due to the small size of groups taken) is honestly over 80%. On average, individual hunters see 15 or more moose during their hunt. North Country Outfitters is owned and operated by John and Andrea Hatley.

What makes us unique:

Our philosophy has never been about pushing as many hunters through camp as possible and making lots money. John grew up in moose, goose, fishing and trap line camps – hunting and outfitting run deeply in his blood. John takes each moose hunter’s efforts and success to heart and does more than 100% to ensure the best hunt possible. Our staff volunteer their services due to their allegiance to John and their personal love of the experience. They have been with us for the past seven years and as such are very experienced in the areas we hunt. They are as dedicated as John is to make your hunt a success.

About our trips:

We offer a seven day all inclusive moose hunting package for small groups of hunters, two or four individuals. Experience has shown us that this is what works best for hunting success and we have never mixed groups. Our package includes all required hunting tags and fishing licenses, air transportation between Thompson and the fly-in camp, three excellent home cooked meals per day, accommodation and guide services. There is also a satellite telephone in case of emergency. Guide to hunter ratio is 1:2, or 1:1, depending on the size of the group. Hunting is done by boat on the river and calling is the most effective method for this area. We do offer a Combo Black Bear hunt, though as we do not bait for black bears, sightings are rather incidental, but we usually have a license in camp should someone need one. Your moose hunting trip includes exceptional fishing for trophy Northern Pike and Walleye.

Our history:

We began our experience in the area in 1993 as professional trappers and as such have not only exclusive trapping rights to the area but also have intimate knowledge of the wildlife and their habits through the seasons. When we saw the wealth of animals and the total lack of hunting pressure we knew this would be the opportune spot to offer moose hunts to non-residents. It was also an ideal way to supplement our trapping activities as the area is so remote (100 miles from any semblance of civilization) and accessible only by float plane ... thus the inception of North Country outfitters in 1997. Initially we were allotted four tags and due to our success this was quickly increased to eight. We have recently been offered by the Department of Natural Resource a total of twelve tags. We have been able to maintain an unheard of hunt success average of over 80%. We are in the process of getting Lodge status and should be able to accommodate clients in the lodge facility (beds, dining area and lounge) for the 2008 season.
